A Gift Shared: A Family and the Golden Gryphon Fund
When one family began praying about their children’s education, they did so with deep conviction. As parents, they believe they are the primary educators of their four children — and that conviction has guided every decision.
For years, the mother homeschooled, drawing on her training as a teacher. She cherished reading “living books,” reciting poetry and Scripture, and cultivating a sense of wonder.
“We loved delighting in good literature,” she recalls. “We didn’t want to lose that.”
But over time, they sensed something more was needed — not a replacement for their role, but a partner in it. That’s when they discovered Capstone Classical Academy.
Rooted in the True, the Good, and the Beautiful
From the beginning, they were struck by the intentionality of Capstone’s approach. Every subject, even physical education, was grounded in purpose. “Why do we prioritize physical education?” she recalls hearing. “Because God gave us these bodies, and we use them for His glory.”
Capstone’s commitment to forming the whole person — mind and soul — deeply resonated. Its focus on teaching students how to think, its grounding in truth, beauty, and goodness, and its unapologetic Christian worldview aligned with what they were already striving to cultivate at home.
They enrolled their two oldest children first. Soon, all four were part of the Capstone community.
Formation Beyond the Classroom
While the academics have been strong, she sees the greatest impact in the formation of virtue.
At home, the family keeps a list of Capstone’s virtues — the “Gryphon’s weapons” — posted in a central place. When challenges arise, she points her children back to them: “Which virtue do you need to grow in right now?”
That shared language between school and home has been transformative.
One child has worked through friendship challenges using the habits of thought being learned. Another has grown in confidence, learning to embrace difficult tasks with courage. Even the youngest comes home full of joy and eager to share what has been learned.
“It’s the development of the whole person that I notice most,” she says.
The Gift of Partnership
One word she returns to often is partnership.
“We haven’t given up our role as primary educators,” she explains. “We’ve partnered with Capstone to do what is most beneficial for our children.”
That partnership extends beyond the classroom. She volunteers regularly — assisting with lunch duty, helping with student assessments, and serving as a substitute teacher. Her presence allows her to stay closely connected to her children’s experience and to the broader school community.
“We feel like we’ve been given a gift in Capstone,” she says. “Our response is to give back.”
Made Possible Through Generosity
For this family, enrolling four children in a private classical Christian school requires sacrifice. The father serves in a demanding professional role as a public servant, and the mother has chosen to focus on her vocation at home. Each year, they prayerfully discern how to make it possible.
The support they receive through the Golden Gryphon Fund makes that decision attainable.
“We are so grateful,” she says. “Families like ours can choose this type of education because of the generosity of others.”
That generosity is not abstract. It is personal. It is shaping real children — helping them learn not only Latin and literature, but how to know, love, and serve God.
An Investment That Lasts a Lifetime
That generosity is not abstract. It is personal. It is shaping real children — helping them learn not only Latin and literature, but how to know, love, and serve God.
When asked what she would say to those considering a gift, she speaks simply:
“If you’ve been given resources and are looking for a place to invest them — invest in a child. Invest in their education. It can be transformative for a lifetime.”
For this family, Capstone is more than a school. It is a partner in formation, a community rooted in Christ, and a place where their children are growing in wisdom and virtue. And because of faithful donors, that gift is within reach.
