Mrs. Kudrna’s 4th grade students are demonstrating the power of intentional, integrated learning through Capstone’s curriculum!
Across subjects, students are building connections and applying their learning in meaningful ways. In geography, they have been learning to plot coordinates of latitude and longitude on a map. In science, they are preparing to study Earth’s surface and the forces that can shape it. In writing, students have read and written from source texts about famous mountains, while in math they are applying rounding skills to real-world data, including mountain elevations. In literature, their main character discovered a treasure map and journal log containing lists of coordinates.
As pictured below, students plot the locations of tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanoes around the world. This hands-on experience helped students visualize how Earth’s surface can change, consider how those changes affect maps, and understand how scientists study these events to help humans prepare for natural disasters.
